MARTIN SOBEL
SOBEL, MARTIN, CPA, 80, passed away on April 6, 2010. Marty will be remembered by those who knew and loved him as a man of high intelligence, impeccable integrity, loving dedication, and loyalty to his family, friends, and clients. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he graduated from prestigious Central High School and Temple University with a degree in Accounting. He passed the CPA exam in one try at a time when all sections of the test had to be passed at the same time. He moved to Miami in 1959. He received high praise and utmost respect from all who had the honor of working with him. Marty is widely recognized as the grandfather of matrimonial forensic accounting in south Florida and lectured at conferences internationally. He was regularly honored as one of the top CPAs in south Florida and was sought out for his knowledge, experience, expertise, commitment, hard work, and his passionate drive for the truth. His happiest accounting memories were as a Partner at Dawson, Rosenbaum & Sobel, PA in Coconut Grove. Marty loved and married his long time sweetheart Marilyn in January 1951. They were married for 59 wonderful years. Having met when they were 12 years old, they serve as role models for their loving commitment to each other. Marty valued education tremendously and worked tirelessly to provide his children with the education they wanted. Stephen Sobel is a Psychiatrist in San Diego. Cynthia Sobel Gold is a CPA in Miami and was Marty's partner for 28 years. They love and miss him and will be eternally grateful for the opportunities that his hard work provided them. They hope that their lives honor him. Marty will be eternally loved and remembered by those who survive him: his loving wife Marilyn, Cindy and her husband Jon Gold, who was a son to Marty, Steve and his wife Frances Brown, whom he loved dearly, and the apples of his green eyes and endless sources of pride, his granddaughters Robyn Gold, Lesley Gold and Ariel Sobel. Martin Sobel has had a long, distinguished career in South Florida that spans over 55 years of public accounting expertise. He was a Principal of the accounting firm of Sobel, Glackman & Sobel, P.A. in Miami founded in 1960. Sobel is considered an expert in the area of marital dissolution cases and has spoken at eight American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) National Conferences on the subject of divorce. He is a member of the AICPA and a former adjunct professor at St. Thomas University's School of Law where he taught in the areas of divorce taxation and related matrimonial economic issues.
Sobel's daughter, Cynthia Sobel, CPA, is equally accomplished and joined her father in practice in 1982 as a Partner. At Sobel, Glackman & Sobel, P.A., she was responsible for the day-to-day management of the firm, final review of all tax returns and financial statements as well as tax research. Active in the community, she is a member of the AICPA, FICPA, American Women's Society of Certified Public Accountants and a Board Member and Past Treasurer of Temple Israel of Greater Miami.
A resident of North Miami, Martin Sobel obtained a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Temple University. Cynthia Sobel holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina and also lives in North Miami.
